Paul has more than 20 years teaching experience in Hong Kong. He has taught academic writing and English literature to university undergraduates and has tutored secondary school students for the HKCEE, A/S level and now for the HKDSE. He also has first-hand experience of the Hong Kong school system as a parent. His three teenage children attend local schools and are currently studying for the HKDSE.

A few years ago he chanced upon this traditional proverb which is attributed to Xun Zi (荀子), “Tell me and I'll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I'll understand” (不聞不若聞之,聞之不若見之;見之不若知之,知之不若行之;學至於行而止矣 ). It inspired him and ever since he has sought to involve students in the learning process.
